Charith Gunarathne

Founder & Visionary

Driven by a profound passion for Sri Lanka's rich culinary heritage, Charith V. Gunarathne founded the Lunu Mirisa family restaurant chain to bring authentic, village-style flavors back to the modern dining table.

Under his guidance, Lunu Mirisa has become renowned for its exceptional rice and curry buffets and traditional seafood platters, prepared using generation-old techniques and the finest local spices.

"We didn't just want to serve traditional food; we wanted to recreate the soul of the village. That's why we introduced unique structural designs, including Colombo's first-ever handmade bamboo restaurant setup, giving our guests a truly immersive aesthetic experience."

Our Heritage

The Lunu Mirisa Story

Lunu Mirisa Family Restaurant originated as a small, humble local eatery driven by a passion for serving authentic Sri Lankan flavors. Over the years, it has transformed into a well-known family restaurant chain in Sri Lanka, celebrating its 6th anniversary in January 2024, marking its original establishment in January 2018.

2018 (Inception)

Founded as a basic eatery focusing on natural taste, quality ingredients, and traditional island cooking styles.

2020 (Pandemic Adaptation)

The restaurant expanded its reach during regional curfew periods by integrating heavily with food delivery services like PickMe Food and Uber Eats to sustain its customer base.

2023 (Bamboo Concept Launch)

In February 2023, the brand marked a new creative milestone by opening what they advertised as Colombo's first-ever handmade bamboo restaurant structure at its Boralesgamuwa location.

2024 (Regional Expansion)

Capitalizing on its popularity in Colombo, the brand officially opened its Galle branch in October 2024, expanding its signature Southern Sri Lankan culinary theme right into the heart of the Southern Province.

Current Footprint & Culinary Identity

The brand operates multiple branches across key towns, including Boralesgamuwa, Embuldeniya, Battaramulla, and Galle. It is highly regarded for its traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry buffet featuring over 30 distinct varieties of curries. The history of the restaurant is deeply tied to popularizing heritage-rich specialties such as Banana-Leaf wrapped Lamprais and unique variations like Bamboo Biriyani.
